Welcome to the first post-COVID update to the NehrkeLab website. Routine maintenance took a hit during the pandemic, but I’m working to rectify that.
We had two new grants funded in 2020 – one of them an R01 based on the success of an exploratory R21 from NIA to study the role of post-translational modifications to the Alzheimer’s associated protein tau in causing disease-relevant mitochondrial dysfunction and the second an R01 from NEI to determine the mechanism whereby metabolic remodeling following the loss of the mitochondrial pyruvate carrier impacts fibrosis in a corneal photorefractive keratectomy model. The former grant is a collaboration with Dr. Gail Johnson in Anesthesiology and the later with Dr. Krystel Huxlin in Ophthalmology.
